You won’t get bored when staying at Résidence Club Alpine Le Hors Piste in summer. The south west facing position of Oz en Oisans means very pleasant temperatures in summer. Ideal holiday weather with lots of activities and interesting sites to visit in Oz en Oisans and its surroundings. In summer Oz is a big attraction for active tourists and relaxed holiday makers alike.
Oz en Oisans
From Résidence Club Alpine Le Hors Piste it is 3 minutes walk to the centre of the village, where you’ll find a supermarket, small shops and some restaurants and in winter even the famous La Grotte du Yeti disco.
The two cable cars ensure easy and quick access to the tops and glaciers of the Massif Le Grandes Rousses, where you can go for extensive walks or enjoy the view from the terrace of one of the mountain restaurants.
In 2007 the indoor swimming pool and health centre were opened in Oz Station.
The famous MegAvalanche mountainbike race and Marmotte cycling event, the magicians week, cultural events, guided tours and horse races are just some of the events on Oz’s yearly calendar. And there islts more to do: Paragliding, canyoning, rafting, or via verrata windsurfing, swimming, mountain biking, cycling, motor tours, climbing, golf, etc. The local tourist office organises various activities for all ages. Surroundings & Activities
Le Bessey:
The pretty village of Le Bessey is just 2 kilometers from Oz station. A beautiful walk via the waterfall brings you to Le Bessey.
Vaujany:
A ski station approx. 6 kilometres from Oz. The modern Vaujany sport complex has a sub-tropical indoor swimming pool, jacuzzi and sauna. Vaujany has some lovely shops, restaurants and bars.
Allemont:
In summer Allemont is the bubbling village situtated at the foot of the Oz mountain. Situated on the shores of Lake Verney with lots of watersport activities such as windsurfing, sailing and waterbikes in summer. Allemont has an outdoor swimming pool complex and several restaurants and bars.
Bourg d’Oisans:
Is the region’s central market town. Approx. 20 minutes from Oz. Amenities such as a big supermarket, a launderette and many shops. It is a cosy little town, where in the evenings it is nice to have a drink on one of its many terraces.
Alpe d’Huez:
Famous for its inclusion in the Tour de France as well as the ski arena. Many sport shops and an international night life. The heated outdoor swimming pool is also open in winter.
Venosc:
Typical French mountain village situated in the Parc National des Ecrins with lots of water sport activities due to the wild water river which flows through the village. For the fanatics a true adventure.
Grenoble:
The nearest city in the region, about one hours drive from Oz. Culture, history, sport and lots of shopping facilities. Grenoble is most certainly worth a visit.
Laffrey:
One of many beautiful lakes in the area with lots of recreational summer facilities. Several small beaches with restaurants, water sport amenities and bars.
La Mure
Typical French village on the edge of the Parc National des Ecrins. Le Chemin de Fer de La Mure is one of the oldest railway tracks in the mountains. To reach La Mure you can follow several picturesque routes, such as over the Col d’Ornon.
Gap:
Small old French town approximately one hours drive from Oz on the road to Sisteron. Typical squares and interesting architecture.
Briançon:
When you approach Briançon, one of the oldest towns in France, you immediately notice the medieval fort. The historic centre of the town also has many hip bars and restaurants.
Walking and Nordic Walking
Oz Station is the place to be when walking is one of favourite past times. Either comfortably relaxed enjoying the Alpine scenery or if you are up to it, test your condition by following a course at varying altitudes. All routes are clearly marked and often start directly from Résidence Club Alpine Le Hors Piste. The exceptional flora and fauna of the nearby Park National des Ecrins with beautiful villages and many glaciers with tops exceeding 4000 metres form the exciting background for many walkers and experienced alpinists alike.
Cyclists
Oz en Oisans and its surroundings is a natural paradise for sporty cyclists. Everyone must climb – even if it’s only once in your life – l’Alpe d’Huez. Many other mountains such as the Col du Glandon, Col de la Croix de Fer, Col d’Ornon, Col de Télegraphe and Col de Galibier are not just names from the Tour de France, but actually a challenge to conquer for all tour cyclists.
The Tour de France returns to the region year after year and attracts thousands of enthusiast. Always a crazy period with lots of extra festivities with Oz en Oisans as a focal points from where you can join in the activities. Another event that attracts crowds of the amateur cyclists is the so called Marmotte. They have trained for months to complete the gruelling 170 kilometres over five extreme mountain passes to finish on the sixth: l’Alpe d’Huez.
Mountain biking
Did you know that every summer there is some kind of championship mountain bike downhill or track race held in Oz. Such as in 2007 the French open championships and in 2005 even the World Cup! Not surprisingly when the tracks rate amongst the most challenging in the world. Not forgetting the annual Sprint spectacle and MegAvalanche. A week of total madness! Qualification sprints are held on the steep slopes finishing in Oz. On Sunday the top down hillers qualify to participate in the MegAvalanche Trophy. The start is at 3300 metres on the Pic Blanc glacier descending to Allemont village at 720 metres.
Motor cyclists
Are you brave enough to face the challenges in the mountains? From Oz en Oisans you have an unrestricted choice of great routes over spectacular mountain passes along quaint and unspoiled spots to fascinating towns and extraordinary places. Even border crossing destinations in Bella Italia. If you are a motor bike enthusiast you must come to Oz en Oisans and get hooked on the Alpine Bike Experience.
There is more to do …
For adrenaline junkies there is paragliding, canyoning, wild water rafting, via verrata and bungee jumping. For children there is a climbing wall and for the little ones even a nursery.
